How Trends works

Trends surfaces players whose tracked Statcast metrics have shifted this season — throwing harder, a faster bat, more barrels, more whiffs, a sharper eye. It compares a player's recent games against their season baseline, shrinks the gap by sample size, and reads the shape of the path to label each one: New high (a fresh season extreme that's holding), Climbing all year (a steady season-long drift), Bouncing back (returning to form after a cold spell — not new), or Hot blip (one or two games, not yet sustained). The View picks the angle: Recent · 7 G or 15 G rank the sharpest move over that many recent games, Season-long ranks the cleanest full-season trend, and Breakouts ranks the biggest sustained new levels. Each card's sparkline shades the recent window and dashes the season average, so you can see a new high above the line vs. a return to it. It's a movement signal, not a quality ranking — and Statcast lags box scores ~1 day.
